What Do I Do if I Have One Red Light on the Ring of Death on My Xbox 360?
If you have an Xbox 360 game console, you know how fun it can be when it’s working properly. But what do you do when you’re playing your game
console and all of a sudden, you get red lights on the front of your console instead of the cheerful green lights signifying a healthy, working gaming system?
Coined the “Red Ring of Death,” red lights shining and flashing on the front of the Xbox 360 game console are never good—in some cases, you will see just one of the four lights either solid or blinking. This indicates that there is a general hardware failure with your Xbox 360, and could mean a number of things have gone wrong inside.
However, the first thing to do if you get a “Red Ring of Death” with one red light is to restart your console. If the light is still red, unplug everything—cables and cords from the back—and then plug them all back in, making sure they have a strong connection and are functioning properly themselves. If you still get the red light afterwards, it’s time to bust out some tools. Open up the game console, remove the hard drive and then put it back—restart the console and see what happens. If you still have a red light on the front of the console in the light circle, the problem may be out of your control. At this point, you’re going to want to look at your options for having it fixed—by either sending it to Microsoft, taking it to a repair shop, or rolling up your sleeves and doing it yourself.
